Caritas Vlaanderen faciliteert een 'referentieadres' voor ongeveer 300 woonwagenbewoners in België. Een referentieadres is een adres voor mensen die in België wonen, maar geen officiële verblijfplaats hebben. Hierdoor hebben ze recht op officiële diensten, kunnen ze aanspraak maken op allerlei sociale rechten en officiële brieven ontvangen. Gezien hun nomadische levensstijl is het voor de kinderen/jongeren moeilijk om naar school te gaan. In deze context ontwikkelt Caritas Vlaanderen een project om kinderen uit deze doelgroep toegang te geven tot onderwijs. Woonwagenbewoners kunnen maximaal 3 weken verblijven op de officiële doortrekkersterreinen (4 in Vlaanderen en 11 in Wallonië). Vrijwilligers zullen worden gevraagd om activiteiten en lessen Frans voor te bereiden, te organiseren en te geven aan de kinderen op verschillende locaties in België. Ze zullen de communicatie met lokale vrijwilligers en families vergemakkelijken. Ze zullen ook eenmalige activiteiten ondersteunen.
Accommodatie, catering en transport
Caritas Vlaanderen regelt accommodatie in Brussel voordat de vrijwilligers in België aankomen: een gedeelde kamer in een flat. Aan het begin van elke maand ontvangen de vrijwilligers hun zakgeld en voedselvergoeding. Wat vervoer betreft, krijgen de vrijwilligers een maandelijkse reispas voor Brussel. Als vrijwilligers buiten de stad moeten reizen, krijgen ze een Go pass/Rail pass om de trein te gebruiken of ze worden vergoed voor de aankoop van hun vervoersbewijzen aan het einde van elke maand, net als het personeel.
Opleiding tijdens de activiteit
Vrijwilligers krijgen een specifieke opleiding om meer te leren over de cultuur van Roma en woonwagenbewoners. Ze krijgen ook vorming over verschillende thema's van de Caritas Confederatie. Ten slotte krijgen vrijwilligers de kans om deel te nemen aan interne Caritas teamtrainingen.
Profiel deelnemers
Vrijwilligers moeten ervaring hebben in het werken met kinderen/jongeren en, indien mogelijk, een achtergrond in het onderwijs.Vrijwilligers moeten flexibel en ruimdenkend zijn.Vrijwilligers moeten Frans en Engels spreken om te kunnen communiceren met de kinderen/jongeren en ouders in het project en met het Caritas team. Nederlands is een voordeel maar niet essentieel. Vrijwilligers blijven minimaal 10 maanden en maximaal 12 maanden. Geselecteerde kandidaten zullen een gesprek hebben met de organisatie om elkaar beter te leren kennen.

Caritas Vlaanderen facilitates a "reference address" for around 300 travellers in Belgium. A reference address is an address for people residing in Belgium, but without an official place of residence. This entitles them to official services, to claim all kinds of social rights and to receive official letters. Given their nomadic lifestyle, it is difficult for the children/young people to go to school. In this context, Caritas Vlaanderen is developing a project to give children from this target group access to education. Travellers can only stay for a maximum of 3 weeks at the official transit sites (4 in Flanders and 11 in Wallonia). Volunteers will be asked to prepare, organise and run activities and lessons in French for the children at various locations in Belgium. They will facilitate communication with local volunteers and families. They will also support one-off activities.
Accommodation, catering and transport arrangements
Caritas Vlaanderen will arrange accommodation in Brussels before the volunteers arrive in Belgium: a shared room in a flat. Volunteers will receive their pocket money and food allowance at the beginning of each month. As far as transport is concerned, volunteers will be issued with a monthly travel pass for Brussels. When volunteers have to travel outside the city, they will receive a "Go pass/Rail pass" to use the train or they will be reimbursed for the purchase of their transport tickets at the end of each month, just like the staff.
Training during the activity
Volunteers will receive specific training to learn more about Roma and Traveller culture. They will also receive training on various Caritas Confederation topics. Finally, volunteers will have the chance to take part in internal Caritas team training.
Participant profile
Volunteers should have experience of working with children/young people and, if possible, a background in education. Volunteers should be flexible and open-minded. Volunteers must speak French and English to communicate with the children/young people and parents in the project as well as with the Caritas team. Dutch is an advantage but not essential. Volunteers stay for a minimum of 10 months and a maximum of 12 months. Selected candidates will have an interview with the organisation to get to know each other better.
